Kesley Wolff of Startup Nanaimo is on a mission to find out where the business jobs are in Nanaimo:
Kelsey Wolff wants to find out where the entry-level business positions are
Finding a job in Nanaimo post-graduation is a seemingly impossible task for many Vancouver Island University business students, but one student is on a mission to find the truth.
While there are currently tough times for post-secondary graduates across North America, speculations constantly swirl about Nanaimo’s particular unemployability – specifically in the business sector.
A group of VIU business students even campaigned city businesses last summer, urging them to hire locally after unsuccessfully searching for opportunities close to home.
At the same time, many didn’t bother searching at all before leaving the city for seemingly greener pastures.
So is all the hearsay about needing to leave Nanaimo to find a job true? Kelsey Wolff, who is about to graduate from VIU’s Master’s of Business Administration program, hopes to settle the question once and for all. She has made it her mission to find the truth about Nanaimo’s jobs – and hopefully find her own in the process.
Using her background in market research, Wolff plans to crunch the city’s job numbers and meet with local businesspeople each week in an attempt to find out where the entry-level business jobs are hiding.
